![]() ![]() Yet that complexity is then complicated by his disdain for All Might risking himself when he’s powerless, potentially undermining the very attempt at complicating him–if that makes sense. It’s one thing to complicate his characterization by showing his guilt for his role in All Might losing the last of his Quirk (which, I’m loath to say, is not Bakugo’s fault: One For All was running out for him since Chapter 1). But that means we have to talk about the one character whose development is needed to further show how much Izuku means and to finally apologize for his behavior: Bakugo.īakugo is not someone I can tolerate easily: he is intolerable, and he is intolerant of others who don’t match his supposed greatness. The good news, however, is that previous chapters in this arc did a lot of the heavy lifting that was needed to make us feel like it has indeed been seven years–by having Denki and others hanging a lampshade on the fact that they love Izuku despite hardly knowing him as well or that long at all. ![]() It’s not fair to expect the characters to have seven years of development when they haven’t had the chance to live in their own world for even two years yet. A lot of my annoyance with progress in My Hero Academia is my fault, not the story itself: it’s been seven years in the real world of manga publishing, yet within their world the students are still in their first year (granted, held back a year due to their school being an evacuation shelter). I have written recently about the challenge of tolerating an intolerable and intolerant character, whose presence is to show how far along characters have developed and how far along plot has progressed. ![]() “Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight,” My Hero Academia Chapter 322 ![]()
